July 1st, I will be starting my 30 Risks in 30 Days Challenge
30 risks in 30 days, what does that even mean? What kind of risks? Don't you realize there are 31 days in July?
These are all questions I've gotten since I've decided to do this self imposed challenge. Luckily, those I can answer easily:
-It means doing 30 things that month that take you outside your comfort zone
-Any
kind of risk you'd like, it doesn't have to be crazy or dangerous or
life altering, but by all means, if that's what you want to do, feel
free! You can quit your job, propose to the love of your life, or try
sushi for the first time. Nothing's too big or too small.
-Yes, I know there are 31 days in July, but hey, I might want a break one of those days. Being gutsy can wear you out!
Why?
This is probably the hardest question I've gotten and I'll explain why.
I
have no idea who'll be reading this blog, so here's a little background
on me. I'm Ashleigh, 26, live in the DC area. I moved out here from
California to go to Howard University when I was 18 without having even
visited the campus and no idea how to do my own laundry. In 2006 I decided I
wanted to study abroad in Spain so I set off on a 3 month adventure with
one of my best friends from high school...with $150 in my bank account.
I like to stay active, running, pole dancing, and performing
burlesque. Yeah, like seductively peeling off a few items of clothing
for an audience.
Sounds like I'm really risk adverse huh? I am
wholly aware that I've done a few risky things here and there and I'm
glad that I have. But there are certain things that I'm hoping to
tackle in the next 30 days that will hopefully give me a new sense of
purpose in my life. The risks that I need to take aren't all necessarily
large scale, but scary none the less. Not to mention, I'm giving away a
freebie by blogging this whole experience...putting your personal
business out there is pretty risky in and of itself.
